How We Review Products

Apartment Fix Lab sometimes recommends products — tools, organizers, renter-friendly fixtures, and similar items that may help solve a specific apartment-living problem. Here’s how those recommendations are actually put together.

What “products that may help” means

When we mention a product, we’re pointing to something that fits the problem being discussed based on its specifications, features, price point, and how it’s described by the manufacturer or retailer, plus publicly available reviews. It’s a starting point for your own research, not a guarantee that it’s the single best option available.

When we say we’ve tested something

We only claim hands-on testing when we’ve genuinely used the product ourselves. If an article doesn’t explicitly say we tested it, assume the pick is based on research rather than personal, in-hand experience. We won’t imply real-world testing that didn’t happen.

How picks are chosen

Our selections are based on factors like:

  • Whether the product fits common apartment constraints (renter-friendly installation, size, noise, etc.)
  • Specs and features relevant to the specific problem being solved
  • Price relative to comparable options
  • Publicly available customer feedback and ratings

Picks are not chosen because of a brand’s advertising spend or because a company paid for placement. Affiliate relationships, described in our Affiliate Disclosure, may earn us a commission on a sale, but they do not determine which products we choose to mention.

Our standard going forward

As this site grows, we intend to do more direct testing where practical, and we’ll always be clear about which recommendations come from hands-on use versus careful research.
